About the role

The Workplace Relations Division comprises of Workplace Relations Specialists who provide end to end advice and support on all employee and industrial relations matters. The division is primarily focused on assisting Victoria Police in managing the workforce, in line with certified industrial agreements and employment legislation. This includes providing high level advice and support on employees' working conditions and entitlements, managing complaints associated with workplace conflict, bullying and VPS misconduct, undertaking organisation reviews and realignments and redeploying sworn and VPS employees to suitable employment.

As a key team member, you will have hands-on accountability for leading and/or participating in workplace relations activities and functions for a designated client group within the state of Victoria.  You will lead a small team to work directly with your client group in case managing any Workplace Relations matters that they have, supporting them through end to end processes.  Your work will be based out of the Victoria Police Centre in Docklands, however at times you will have planned travel to various metropolitan and regional locations within Victoria to support your client group.

In this role you will be required to:

  • Manage the day to day running of your team by monitoring and analysing individual and team performance and workflows, and allocate work accordingly;
  • Provide high level strategic workplace relations advice and guidance to a diverse range of internal clients;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including unions;
  • Represent the organisation at external jurisdictions including tribunals for which you will lead or contribute to submissions as required;
  • Support employees and management to settle employee disputes and workplace grievances by advising on and or arranging investigations, mediations or early resolution meetings;
  • Modelling proactive end to end case management of complex workplace relations matters including bullying, harassment, conflict resolution and misconduct matters;
  • Managing the full carriage of organisational reviews, restructures and realignments;
  • Developing, reviewing and implementing contemporary human resource policies, guidelines and delegations;
  • Fostering a learning culture within the team and promoting ongoing professional development of team members to ensure contemporary workplace relations knowledge;
  • Leading or being involved in major projects.

Skills and experience:

Success in this role requires someone with:

  • Proven workplace relations experience within a complex and unionised organisation;
  • A flair for people management and a genuine interest in developing others;
  • Strong case management expertise in dealing with a variety of matters such as bullying, harassment, conflict and misconduct;
  • Proven record in achieving resolution of complex workplace relations issues in a unionised environment;
  • Experience in leading organisational restructures;
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to influence diverse stakeholder groups across all levels;
  • Strong working knowledge of current employment legislation including EBA and policy interpretation; and
  • Resilience, pragmatism, innovation and a passion for continued learning.

Requirements and relevant information

  • The incumbent will be required to complete the OHS requirements of the organisation, which may include local level training relating to equipment usage and Hazardous Chemicals

* Your usual place of work will be within the Workplace Relations Division, Human Resource Department; however you may be required to work at any other division within the Human Resource Department as required.
