The role of a Crime Stoppers Operative is a dynamic yet process driven position where you will be based in a call centre type environment working with a team of public servants and Police investigators.

Some of your duties will include on the phone talking to community members regarding issues they wish to report via the Crime Stoppers program and processing online reports submitted through the Crime Stoppers website.

Position Details

Your duties will include:

  • Answering phone calls of crime and traffic related information from the public and advising callers of appropriate referral services, where necessary.
  • Processing crime and traffic related information received through phone calls, electronic media and written correspondence into information reports.
  • Conducting data checks, updating database records and compiling statistics.
  • Communicating with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. 

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to transcribe information provided into accurate well written reports.
  • Ability to use a computer, with multiple screens and with multiple applications.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to plan and prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to process information efficiently and in line with established procedures.
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure and remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to work in a confidential and sensitive environment.
  • Ability to manage exposure to at times distressing and graphic crime content. 

Requirements and relevant information:

  • Successfully complete the in-house Crime Stoppers Training and Development Program within six months of appointment.
  • Crime Stoppers operates a 24 hour service, 365 days per year. Staff may be required to work a range of rostered hours, shift work, some public holidays and weekends. Although Crime Stoppers does not run a nightshift, applicants must be available to work night shifts should the need arise and in accordance with award conditions. Shift allowances will be paid in accordance with the relevant Victorian Public Service Agreement.

  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
