Position Details

  • VPSG3 range $64,583 - $78,418 p.a. + super + leave loading
  • One (1) full time, ongoing position
  • Working within the Logistic Support Division, Operational Infrastructure Department located in Melbourne CBD*


About the role:

As an Armourer for the Logistical Support Division you will undertake the duties for the physical maintenance of Victoria Police's firearms fleet and the related logistics tracking systems. 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude in relation to detailed maintenance of fine tolerance equipment, including identification of faults, design and user complexities for a variety of mechanical systems.   


Some of your duties will include:

  • Working with a specialised team to undertake the maintenance program and fault investigation activities for Victoria Police's fleet of firearms and related controlled weaponry
  • Adhering to and pro-actively contributing to the health, safety and workplace security activities of the Armoury
  • Providing high level customer service and advice to queries and technical issues including preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Undertake routine data entry and maintenance logs for the fleet of firearms and related weaponry in accordance with information securing and records management policies
  • Proactively contributing to continuous improvement processes and manual handling guidelines
  • Maintaining a contemporary knowledge and regularly updating qualifications for firearms and weapons systems to support the Divisions strategic direction for the fleet


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly regulated environment
  • The ability to achieve results under pressure and work collaboratively within a small specialised team
  • High level attention to detail
  • Comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety practices and policies applicable to an Armoury position
  • Understanding of record keeping requirements and related information security policies
  • High level interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills

Requirements and relevant information:

  • Hold current manufacturers Armourer Certification or qualify in the various firearms systems in use by Victoria Police within six (6) months
  • Knowledge of firearms is not necessary as training is provided
  • The successful candidate may be required to undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance to the level determined by the Department Head. To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen
  • The incumbent will be required to complete the OHS requirements of the organisation, which may include local level training relating to equipment usage and Hazardous Chemicals
  • Possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for a White Class Driver Authority within three (3) months

*Your usual place of work will be within the Logistical Support  Division, Operational Infrastructure Department, however you may be required to work at any other division within the Department  as required.
