About the role:
The Media and Online Learning Unit develops and delivers educational and professional development content to the organisation via an LMS (Totara/Moodle). As the Learning Developer you will contribute to the design, development and maintenance of suitable online learning materials including e-learning packages, blended learning programs, assessment activities and other learning resources. You will also provide administration and support to the Victoria Police Learning Hub.

This is a multi-functional role in a small but busy unit so the ability to prioritise, and work collaboratively with the team is essential.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders on the design and technical and development standards required to deliver e-learning programs.
  • Develop mock ups and proof of concept designs.
  • Develop master pages and templates and/or utilise existing standardised and suitable templates to ensure uniformity and branding throughout product interface and a positive user experience.
  • Build online resources including assessment/survey activities, discussion boards, sophisticated branching scenarios.
  • Integrate multimedia content and resources, such as images, animations, sound, text and video components into e-learning packages/platforms.
  • Operate specialist e-learning development software including Articulate Storyline and Moodle to develop and maintain online learning resources.
  • Research and implement learning technologies to facilitate virtual classrooms, webinars, etc.
  • Research and develop engaging interactive activities and navigation, transitions, style guides and course design ideas for e-Learning packages and blended learning programs, in consultation with the Instructional Designer and clients, which can be used again for future assets.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of contemporary learning technologies and learner engagement approaches and emerging trends to support continuous improvement of learning solutions.
  • Carry out quality control of resources and technologies, review feedback and perform evaluations to assess user experience and functionality.
  • Support others in the use of learning technologies.
  • Monitor task progress against performance expectations to ensure deadlines are met and reorganise work to reflect changes in priorities, as required. Provide progress updates.
  • Assist in consistently reviewing and improving the learning development processes and programs.

Skills and experience
As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Proficient skills in Articulate Storyline 3 (essential).
  • Practical knowledge of Learning Management Systems including Moodle is desirable.
  • Professional attitude with well-developed communication, interpersonal and consultation skills with a demonstrated capacity to work effectively autonomously as well as collaboratively and productively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work to project deadlines with competing priorities to ensure on-time delivery of scoped deliverables.
  • Working knowledge of online / virtual learner experience principles and e-learning concepts.
  • A creative approach and an ability to think outside of the box.
  • Skills in graphic design and an eye for detail.
  • Attention to detail with active participation in quality assurance and contribution to the continuous improvement lifecycle.

Requirements and relevant information

  • Professional experience in an e-learning delivery environment is essential.
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is highly desirable.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.

*Your usual place of work will be in Media and Online Learning Unit, Learning Development and Standards, People Development Command. However, you may be required to work at any other division within the People Development Command as required.
