  • Working within the Information Management Standards and Security Division, Information, Systems and Security Command located at the Victoria Police Centre, 637 Flinders St, Docklands*



About the role

The main responsibilities of the position of IT Security Incident Manager are to manage Victoria Police's information technology security Incident capability. This includes, but is not limited to, managing the other roles within the unit as well as providing expertise in security incident management techniques and procedures and providing oversight and guidance to ICT service areas on security incident responses.


Some of your duties will include:

  • Manage the response to IT security incidents affecting Victoria Police technology systems and environments to minimise the impact to Victoria Police services and systems
  • Maintain security incident processes and threshold matrices with applicable stakeholders to enable swift and transparent incident responses
  • Provide technical leadership in security monitoring and incident response, analysing event logs, security alerts and performing statistical analysis in order to efficiently respond to security incidents
  • Liaise with ICT service areas (and IT service providers) to make sure appropriate logging information is captured and effective monitoring processes are active in order to detect adverse activity
  • Provide guidance to ICT service areas to ensure security incident responses are conducted in line with Victoria Police policy and process
  • Provide subject matter expertise on information systems security to the Security Incident Registry
  • Conduct post incident reviews in order to optimise incident response processes
  • Participate in the development and management of advanced threat modelling activities
  • Develop and maintain a process to identify indicators of insider threat activity
  • Represent Victoria Police in inter-agency security incident response exercises
  • Manage investigation audit request provisioning and internet email filtering procedures



As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • 4 years minimum of IT security incident response experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or industry certifications (CISSP, CISM) highly desirable
  • Technical experience in systems administration, network administration and/or security engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a team in a rapidly changing information, systems and security environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant government legislation, regulations, reporting directives and procedures, and proven ability to provide authoritative advice and leadership on highly complex information management and data security matters.
  • Demonstrated experience in analysis and problem solving within a complex multifaceted environment, with the ability to identify and implement innovative solutions and improvements.
  • Highly developed conceptual, analytical, interpersonal and written communication skills, with experience in identifying and effectively communicating themes and issues within information management models to a non-expert audience.
  • A proven record of ethical behaviour and a demonstrated commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct, Financial Code of Practice, and the Organisational Values.



Requirements and relevant information

  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance to the level determined by the Department Head. To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The incumbent will be required to complete the OHS requirements of the organisation, which may include local level training relating to equipment usage and Hazardous Chemicals.

*Your usual place of work will be within the Information Management Standards and Security Division, Information, Systems and Security Command; however you may be required to work at any other division within the Command as required.
