Position Details

  • VPS3 – Analyst $67,866 - $75,136 plus superannuation and leave loading
  • One Full Time Fixed Term Opportunity until COB 9th May 2020.
  • The usual place of work will be DIU-Ballarat located at Ballarat Police Station, 20 Dana St, Ballarat. However you may also be required to work at other locations within the WD3 Tasking & Coordination PSA.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Undertake the collection, evaluation, collation, analysis and controlled dissemination of information in respect of investigations/situations.
  • Make high quality recommendations in respect of the analysis of intelligence and statistical data, identification and evaluation of emerging patterns and trends in crime, organised criminal activity, public order, road policing areas, or family violence.
  • Identify, assess and report on specific targets or target areas.
  • Access and utilise a variety of computer systems and applications in order to collect and effectively manage, maintain, prepare and deliver intelligence and information relating to significant policing priorities and/or, targeted and recidivist criminals.
  • Liaise with and develop a good working relationship with potential sources of information from inside and outside the Victoria Police in order to obtain assistance in the provision of timely and accurate intelligence.
  • Prepare routine management reports, develop and maintain computer based intelligence applications and holdings as well as manual information systems to assist the intelligence process.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of developments and initiatives relevant to intelligence analysis and intelligence systems and provide input to the development and maintenance of these systems.
  • Manage and operate the audio visual recording equipment during examination hearings (only applicable to positions within the Office of Chief Examiner).

 Selection Criteria:

Essential Requirements:

  1. Experience in research and analysis and preferably knowledge of, or experience in, intelligence analysis, criminology, criminal justice, science, technology, mathematics or other relevant academic disciplines.
  2. Well-developed written and oral communication skills and proven ability to plan and organise work and produce high quality results.
  3. Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills including the ability to review a variety of information and identify trends, patterns and issues and provide advice.
  4. An understanding of the customer service requirements of the position and a demonstrated record of strong commitment and achievement in meeting customer needs.
  5. A proven record of ethical behaviour and a demonstrated commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct, Financial Code of Practice, and Organisational Values

Qualifications:

  1. Successfully complete the modules of a Victoria Police approved Intelligence Program relevant to the role as determined by the Region / Department / Command and qualify within 18 months from enrolment. 
  2. Tertiary qualifications in the related fields of criminology, criminal justice, criminal intelligence science, technology, engineering or mathematics are highly desirable.  

Special Requirements: 

  • For positions within Intelligence and Covert Support Command, Counter Terrorism Command, Information Systems & Security Command, Victoria Police Monitoring and Assessment Centre and Crime Command, the successful candidate must be prepared to undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance to the level determined by the Department Head. To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The incumbent will be required to work Rostered Hours, Shift work, some Public Holidays and Weekends. Shift allowances will be paid in accordance with the relevant Victorian Public Service Agreement.  (Applicable to Victoria Police Monitoring and Assessment Centre only)
  • The successful applicant must be prepared to work in a high security area.
  • The successful candidate may be required to undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance to the level determined by the Department Head. To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The incumbent will be required to complete the OHS requirements of the organisation, which may include local level training relating to equipment usage and Hazardous Chemicals.
  • Successful candidates will be required to possess a current Victorian Driver Licence and hold or qualify for an appropriate Victoria Police driving authority within three (3) months.

Other Relevant Information:

  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • While this position will have a nominated usual place of work, the position may be required to work at other locations, in accordance with the provisions of the relevant Victorian Public Service Agreement.
  • The successful candidate will be employed pursuant to Victoria Police policies and procedures along with the relevant Victorian Public Service Agreement.
  • The position description is indicative of the initial expectation of the role and subject to changes to organisational goals and priorities, activities or focus of the job.
  • The preferred candidate will be required to undergo security checks which will include fingerprint checks.
  • The successful candidate will be required to complete the appropriate Declarable Association Acknowledgement Form/s.

  • This position may require the incumbent to undertake physical activities (such as accessing files from a compactus).
