  • Working within the Specialist Intelligence Services Division, Intelligence and Covert Support Command located at the Spencer Street Police Complex - 313, Spencer Street, Docklands, 3008*

About the role

As the successful applicant, you will lead a team to provide authoritative strategic advice to Victoria Police decision makers on the results of intelligence gathering and analysis, including identification of trends and emerging issues. You will model high level leadership attributes in the workplace and across the organisation through the provision of coaching and guidance.  You will contribute to Victoria Police intelligence holdings by remaining conversant with current national and international criminal, technological, legal and operational trends in crime, traffic and public order issues, and the intelligence tools being utilised in analysis and reporting.

Some of your duties will include:

Reporting to the Divisional Manager of Specialist Intelligence Services Division, the position is required to manage and lead a Unit comprising of eight intelligence analysts. Some of your duties will include:

  • Leadership and Management of a high performing team to drive improvements in performance to ensure continuous professional development.
  • Leadership and Management of Intelligence Analysts to support the production of intelligence to inform executive planning, policy and legislative reform, strategy development and operational tasking.
  • Leadership and Management of Intelligence Analysts to unleash potential; drive innovation and inspire new collection sources to enhance the ability to identify issues and risks, and bridge intelligence gaps.
  • Present briefings on the findings of intelligence products to Victoria Police Executive Command, Command and other stakeholders as required.


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Proven ability to lead and manage a high performing team including a demonstrated ability to drive improvements in performance personally, and within the team to ensure continuous professional development.
  • Demonstrated high level critical thinking skills and the ability to condense complex ideas and information into a language appropriate for the audience.
  • High level negotiation, presentation and interpersonal communication skills with the proven ability to liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in the preparation of comprehensive reports, plans, proposals
  • Relevant qualifications in intelligence, or related discipline is highly desirable.


Requirements and relevant information:

  • Successfully complete the modules of a Victoria Police approved Intelligence Program relevant to the role as determined by the Region / Department / Command and qualify within 18 months from enrolment.
  • Post Graduate qualifications in the related field of criminology, criminal justice, criminal intelligence or research related field are highly desirable.
  • The successful candidate must be prepared to undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance to the level determined by the Department Head. To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful applicant must be prepared to work in a high security area.

*Your usual place of work will be within the Specialist Intelligence Services Division, Intelligence and Covert Support Command, however you may be required to work at any other division within the Intelligence and Covert Support Command as required.
