Position Details

  • Working within the Specialist Intelligence Services Division, Intelligence and Covert Support Command located at the Victoria Police Complex, 313 Spencer Street, Docklands, 3008.**


About the role
As the successful applicant, you will provide authoritative advice to Victoria Police decision makers, on the results of intelligence gathering and analysis, including the identification of trends and emerging issues. You will model high-level leadership attributes in the workplace and across the organisation through the provision of coaching and guidance. You will contribute to Victoria Police's intelligence capability by remaining conversant with current national and international criminal, technological, legal and operational trends in crime, road safety and public safety, as well as the intelligence tools being utilised in analysis and reporting.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Conducting state-wide analysis on trends, issues and drivers to inform senior decision makers;
  • Preparing high quality products on a range of issues including crime, road safety and public safety;
  • Maintaining environmental awareness on key themes, and identifying relevant emerging issues and risks; and
  • Providing briefings to Victoria Police's Command and Executive Command on the results of intelligence gathering and analysis.


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • A high-level understanding of intelligence analysis and strategic intelligence, with practical applied analyst skills;
  • A thorough understanding of how intelligence is used to inform decision making in a law enforcement environment;
  • Confidence with working with large datasets and interpreting statistical trends, issues and risks within data;
  • Demonstrated high-level critical thinking skills and the ability to condense complex ideas and information into a language appropriate for the audience;
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write reports and plans succinctly and structured in a manner fit for the audience;
  • High-level presentation and interpersonal communication skills, with the proven ability to liaise with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders;
  • High levels of resilience and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage a number of competing priorities; and
  • The ability to work autonomously, but also in a dynamic team environment, where you contribute to ideas and sharing of experiences.


Requirements and relevant information:

  • Successful completion of the Victoria Police Intelligence Training Program and the Strategic Analysis Course (through Charles Sturt University) or qualify within 12 months;
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in the related fields of intelligence, criminology, criminal justice, criminal intelligence or research are highly desirable;
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance (Negative Vetting Level 1). To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen;
  • The successful applicant will be required to sign an agreement of confidentiality.

*As of 1 July 2018 the VPSG5 range will be $95,275 - $115,276 p.a. + super + leave loading.

**Your usual place of work will be within the Specialist Intelligence Services Division, Intelligence and Covert Support Command; however you may be required to work at any other division within the Intelligence and Covert Support Command as required.
