Position Details

  • VPSG4 range $81,354 - $92,304 p.a. + super + leave loading.
  • Full time, ongoing position available.
  • Working within the Central Budget and Reporting Branch, Corporate Finance Department located at the Victoria Police Centre, 637 Flinders Street, Docklands*

About the role:

As part of the Central Budget and Reporting Branch within the Corporate Finance Department, the role includes the provision of advice and direction to clients on a range of corporate financial management services including:

  • Analysis, interpretation and recommendations on budget management;
  • Forward financial planning and prioritisation of funds;
  •  Performance trends; and
  • Emerging issues.

The incumbent will also be required to identify, research and analyse the effectiveness and efficiency of specific financial issues, initiatives and practices, and include recommendations and implementation strategies as required. The ability to prepare reports, briefing papers, and Issue Cover Sheets at senior management as well as Ministerial level is a key requirement of this role.


Some of your duties will include:

  • Writing briefs and preparing papers for senior audiences.
  • Develop expertise in strategic budgetary matters such as sworn salaries, allowances, unit price model, Staff Allocation Model and the Financial Management Act.
  • Develop expertise in the management of the corporate budget including variance analysis and commentary.
  • Preparing reports to support accounting, financial and administrative obligations of Victoria Police.
  • Assess, review and update budget assumptions used to prepare the yearly internal allocation budget for Victoria Police.
  • Assisting with the monthly budget updates, budget reconciliations and monthly management reporting.

 

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Strong written communication skills;
  • Excellent financial skills and demonstrated experience in budgeting and financial analysis;
  • The ability to use analytical and conceptual skills to reason through problems;
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills for liaising with key stakeholders;
  • The ability to work effectively as a member of a team;

 

Requirements and relevant information:

*Your usual place of work will be within the Central Budget and Reporting Division, Corporate Finance Department, however you may be required to work at any other division within the Department as required.
