About the Division

Based in the Victoria Police Centre, the Strategic Investment Management (SIM) team is the central coordination point for all of Victoria Police's investment priorities. The team maintains relationships with Victoria Police portfolio areas, Executive Command and Government Departments, to ensure that the organisation is appropriately resourced to achieve its strategic objectives.

SIM manages the annual process of developing and preparing Victoria Police's funding proposals in the lead-up to the State Budget. Last year, SIM worked on business cases that eventually led to a record $2 billion investment in Victoria Police, announced in the 2017 Community Safety Statement.

About the Role

The Senior Project Officer contributes to the overall focus of the Strategic Investment Management by managing strategic projects as well as providing specialist advice and solutions on investment priorities. This role will also take responsibility for developing cohesive relationships with key stakeholders and actively managing emerging opportunities, issues and risks.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Communicating effectively with internal stakeholders to understand their investment requirements and how they align with Victoria Police and Victorian Government priorities;
  • Supporting the process of identifying and planning new initiatives;
  • Managing the development and authoring of business cases to support proposed investment in Victoria Police;
  • Analysing and assessing the strategic or operational implications of initiatives – including developing options and costings;
  • Preparing briefings and submissions for a range of stakeholders, including senior management, Executive Command, Government Departments and the Minister for Police.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Proven project management experience with  sound knowledge of project management methodologies to build a planned course of action,
  • Strong interpersonal skills which allow for the establishment and fostering of relationships with internal and external stakeholders,
  • Good research and analytical skills to determine options for action and management of emerging issues,
  • Impeccable written and verbal communication skills coupled with experience writing briefs, comprehensive reports,
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, for example – business, investment.

*Your usual place of work will be within the Strategic Investment Management Division, Strategic Investment, Reporting and Audit Department; however you may be required to work at any other division within the Department as required.
