  • Working within Business Services of the Legal Services Department located at the Victoria Police Centre, 637 Flinders Street, Docklands*


About the role

The Business Services Unit (BSU) provides business management support to the Legal Services Department (LSD).  The BSU is responsible for coordinating, triaging and facilitating all business related activities for a number of Divisions relating to human resources and position establishment, budget and financial management and coordination of business projects including accommodation, contracts, information technology activities and employee health and safety.

The position will support the Senior Business Manager with a range of business service activities for approximately 500 employees (Sworn and VPS) across multiple Divisions within LSD. 


Some of your duties will include:

  • Assist with management of the Department's HR support functions including vacancy and establishment, resourcing, facilitating transfers/secondments/Expressions of Interest, organisational structure administration and general HR business support.
  • Participate in and assist with various financial management activities including Divisional budget / finance support, phasing, forecasting, monthly expenditure reviews and analysis/reporting of Departmental spend.
  • Coordinate research and analysis on the effectiveness and efficiency of specific business issues, initiatives, and practices and prepare relevant reports, recommendations and implement strategies as required.
  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement.
  • Other business service related activities including but not limited to accommodation and IT projects.


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in workforce analysis reporting and establishment management.
  • Experience in providing support and advice on financial management across a large and complex organisation.
  • Well-developed analytical skills with the capacity to achieve established goals and undertake competing priorities within a fast paced environment.
  • Good organisational skills, demonstrating attention to detail and ability to multi-task and prioritise while adhering to strict timelines.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, maintain data and brief senior team members on the status of vacancies, establishment management issues, finance issues and administrative processes.

*As a member of the Legal Services Department you will be located, on selection, at a specific office within a Division for a particular advertised opportunity.  However given occasional legal service demand issues you may be required at times to undertake varied work within the Department.  This supports the Departments commitment to a flexible and deployable legal workforce and professional development opportunities in a range of legal domains.
