Position Details

About the role:
The Legal Business Services Unit (LBSU) is located within the Legal Services Department (LSD), Victoria Police. LSD consists of 158 Victorian Public Service (VPS) employees and 420 Police staff members, who specialise in providing quality legal services to support policing and community safety in Victoria.

The LBSU support LSD management and staff with a range of portfolios, which will be coordinated by this newly-created role. This includes position establishment/people services; procurement and contract services; project coordination; operational infrastructure; accommodation projects and IT Coordination.

The role reports directly to the Business Services Manager and will manage a small team of support staff.

The role will identify the need for, and implement, initiatives to enhance internal processes. It also relies on highly developed interpersonal skills - modelling resilience, professionalism and positive communication within the unit.  For additional context and duties, see the attached position description.

Your duties will include

  • Providing HR / position establishment advice and assistance relating to implementation and allocation of resources;
  • Identifying benefits, risks and outcomes on matters pertaining to strategic workforce planning and organisational structure, including provision of advice to the Senior Management Team and Work Unit Managers;
  • Management of Departmental contracts;
  • Managing and coordinating IT and infrastructure projects, including leasing and accommodation and IT procurement;
  • Assisting the Business Manager with reporting on budget and finance matters including major contract and project funding;
  • Supervision of Business Services support staff.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in providing HR services and support;
  • Experience coordinating and prioritising high volumes of work within a time‑critical environment;
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of business services support;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and proven ability to provide solutions‑based outcomes;
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff.

  • The successful applicant may be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
