Position Details

As a Senior Instructor with Victoria Police, you will be delivering, assessing and maintaining contemporary training for Police Custody Officers and Protective Service Officer recruits. The training of these recruits includes teaching State and Commonwealth Legislation; Victoria Police Force Policy, Procedure & Practice; and Victoria Police IT applications and programs.  The training for recruits is delivered through a combination of classroom sessions, practical scenario based exercises and on the job field placements.      


Your duties will include:

  • Provide teaching and educational services to Victoria Police Custody Officers and Victoria Police Protective Service Officers.
  • Research, develop and implement innovative learning practices and instructional strategies including problem-based action learning together with flexible online delivery methods directed to the needs of the students.
  • Perform the role connected with the Squad Manager portfolio.  These duties are an important strategy in providing day to day support for our newest members during their training at the Academy.
  • Perform administration activities pertaining to the course governance, including record keeping in-line with RTO compliance and Victoria Police policy.
  • Evaluate teaching delivery, and undertake professional development to maintain currency in vocational teaching practices, ensuring quality requirements and improvement plans are implemented.
  • Provide timely & constructive feedback to recruits on their performance and progress.
  • Visit recruits in their designated workplace during their work experience field placements.
  • Provide ongoing advice and support to staff from Custody locations and Protective Services locations.
  • Working in partnership with internal key stakeholders.
  • Perform role plays in practical scenario exercises.
  • Provide support and advice to students of diverse cultures, backgrounds and abilities and implement appropriate learning or support strategies to ensure student safety, health and wellbeing.    


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • A proven ability to work in a small team environment.
  • A proven record of ethical behaviour in-line with the organisational values of Victoria Police.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing high quality approaches in teaching/workplace training, using a variety of learning models which respond to diverse student learning needs.
  • High level organisational skills, including record keeping and course maintenance and the ability to use all relevant technology to contribute to the overall functioning of the unit.
  • A relevant degree or vocational qualification and experience in relevant teaching program would be highly desirable.
  • Australian Qualifications Framework Level 5 teaching qualification is highly desirable.


Requirements and relevant information:

  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is highly desirable or qualify within 12 months (Fully Funded).
  • Complete OHS requirements of the organisation.
  • Possession of a current Victorian drivers licence would be highly regarded.
  • The position is located at the Victoria Police Academy – Glen Waverley.
