About the role:
The Special Projects Unit (SPU) sits within Covert Services Division, Intelligence and Covert Support Command (ICSC) and is tasked with performing a force wide de-confliction role between internal stake holders.

The role requires an experienced, innovative, senior analyst with an aptitude for before-time, conceptual and strategic analysis. It is expected that professional relationships and partnerships will be developed and maintained to enable the provision of assistance to investigators with pattern of life analysis.

Other functions of the role include;

  • Network analysis - delivering information and technical reports to investigators
  • Talent spotting - ability to provide intelligence to better identify avenues of inquiry including opportunities
  • Education and Training to investigators and analysts
  • Analysis of information sources, with appropriate governance and accountability mechanisms, and management of information sharing risks

The SPU mandate is to provide intelligence support for investigations on a force-wide basis.

The position reports to the Unit Manager.

Stakeholders are in important element of this role as the success of the unit is highly dependent on the level of trust, management of risk and success of the partnerships developed.

Your duties will include:

  • Preparing and distributing strategic documents
  • Service Requests for Assistance
  • Building sustainable, productive working relationships
  • Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of developments and initiatives relevant to intelligence information processes
  • Providing leadership, guidance and assistance to less experienced analysts
  • Making high level, strategic recommendations arising from the analysis of intelligence and statistical data, identification and evaluation of emerging patterns and trends in crime and organised criminal activity
  • Utilising a variety of computer systems and applications in order to effectively manage intelligence information
  • Educating and train Victoria Police members on analytical platforms

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • the aptitude for before-time intelligence and analytical activities;
  • Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills and a proven use of initiative and innovation in problem solving 
  • diversity of thinking, adaptability and flexibility;
  • motivation and a the relevant attributes to work well in a small team environment;
  • an understanding of information security around high level intelligence and sensitive and protected documents  

Requirements and relevant information:

  • The selected applicant must have completed the Centre of Intelligence Practice, Intelligence Practitioner Qualification (Diploma of Police Intelligence Practice) or do so within 18 months from enrolment.  
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants MUST be an Australian Citizen.
