Position Details

About the role:
The Senior Communications Advisor will develop, implement and evaluate marketing and communication activities for the Victoria Police Recruitment Campaign. This position will be on a fixed-term basis until 30 June 2020.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Assisting in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of marketing and communications campaigns, ensuring campaigns are evidence-based, effective and based on best-practice marketing approaches;
  • Assisting in the campaign management process, including procurement, contract management, media buying, graphic design, print, digital and direct marketing agencies to ensure delivery of activities within agreed timelines and budget parameters, and adherence to Victoria Police and State Government policies and procedures;
  • Gathering, developing and delivering communications and media activities to support recruitment campaign activities and initiatives. This may include writing press releases, case studies and developing content for social media, digital advertising and printed material;
  • Supporting the work of the team in delivering a multi-faceted communications recruitment campaign through assistance in identifying communications, media and sponsorship opportunities;
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders including media and creative agencies;
  • Maintaining efficient and compliant records management.


As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Experience in marketing and communications, with a demonstrated ability to prepare and implement these strategies, and identify proactive communications opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills including the ability to prepare high quality communication materials on complex issues.
  • Experience in managing large and complex advertising campaigns including booking and creative development. Experience in State Government advertising processes would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing constructive relationships with internal stakeholders and external stakeholders, and having initiative to identify opportunities or risks.
  • A good understanding of the intricacies of working within government, with an eye for detail, and the ability to work in a dynamic and high pressure environment.
  • A proven record of ethical behaviour and a demonstrated commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct, Financial Code of Practice, and the Organisational Values.


Requirements and relevant information:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in marketing, communications or public relations (or equivalent work experience) would be highly regarded.
  • Government campaign experience would be highly regarded.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The position may require travel intrastate.
