Position Details

This position will support the implementation of recommendations 60 and 61 of the Royal Commission into Family Violence by training police lawyers to ensure that, subject to exceptional circumstances and the interests of the parties, all family violence matters are heard and determined in specialist family violence courts within five years.

Initial duties will include assisting in the development and implementation of a specialised training program for police lawyers and will include the delivery of training to police prosecutors and police lawyers.

Ongoing duties may involve work within other areas of the Legal Services Department including advocacy work.

This position may require you to work outside normal hours; overtime will be paid in accordance with the relevant Victorian Public Service agreement.

Your duties will include

  • Providing teaching and educational services to employees of Victoria Police.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of innovative learning practices, and instructional strategies, including project based action learning and flexible online delivery methods directed to the needs of participants, Victoria Police.
  • Engaging in continuing research and professional development in areas of relevant subject matter expertise.
  • Assisting in the implementation of learning and assessment programs in accordance with curriculum/national training packages and/or other requirements, including on site and off site delivery and assessment, assessing training needs and developing training plans and programs.
  • Assisting in implementing learning strategies which develop students' skills, including their capability for ideas generation and creative problem solving.
  • Providing timely and constructive feedback to participants on their performance and progress in their studies.
  • Performing administration activities for the organising of a course of study, including documentation, reports and record keeping in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Providing support and advice to students of diverse cultures, backgrounds and abilities and implement appropriate learning or support strategies to ensure student safety, health and wellbeing.

As the successful applicant, you will have

  • Demonstrated experience as an advocate practising criminal law.
  • Demonstrated experience as an advocate or solicitor practising family law.
  • A current unrestricted Australian practising certificate.
  • A certificate IV in Training & Assessment or equivalent or qualify within 6 months.
  • Relevant degree or vocational qualification and experience in relevant teaching program would be highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing teaching/workplace training.

Requirements and relevant information

  • VPSG4 range $84,019 - $95,329 p.a. + super + leave loading.
  • One (1) Full time, fixed-term (until 6 July 2020) position available.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
  • As a member of the Legal Services Department you will be located, on selection, at a specific office within a Division for a particular advertised opportunity.  However given occasional legal service demand issues you may be required at times to undertake varied work within the Department.  This supports the Departments commitment to a flexible and deployable legal workforce and professional development opportunities in a range of legal domains.
