Position Details

The Act has four main functions:

  • To provide a general right of application to access documents
  • To enable individuals to amend incorrect information about them held by government
  • To provide rights of appeal in relation to the previous two functions
  • To require agencies to publish certain details about themselves and their functions

As one of the successful applicants you will join the team at the Freedom of Information (FOI) Unit of Victoria Police bringing with you appropriate administrative, team management and customer service experience and the ability to undertake a range of activities by processing requests for information and providing sound advice in relation to FOI legislation and processes to our stakeholders.

Your duties will include:

  • assessing FOI requests and providing recommendations
  • negotiating and consulting with applicants and key stakeholders
  • providing authoritative advice regarding FOI legislation, policies and administrative procedures

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • strong time management skills in relation to changing timeframes with a high attention to detail
  • a high level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • the ability to negotiate and influence people
  • the ability to work in a team environment through flexibility and achieving common goals
  • the ability to interpret and apply policies and legislation
