About the role

MDCs co-locate a range of agencies in the one building to provide a victim-centred, integrated and holistic response to victims of sexual crime and child abuse. There are currently 6 MDCs across the state in Mildura, Seaford, Geelong, Dandenong, Bendigo and Morwell, with a seventh being established in Werribee by May 2018.

The MDC Coordinator will play an important role in providing support to co-located partner agencies at the Barwon and Wyndham MDCs to ensure the MDC provides a safe and supportive environment for victims of sexual offences, child abuse and family violence. Partner agencies at the MDCs include:

  • Victoria Police, Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Teams and Family Violence Teams
  • Centres Against Sexual Assault
  • Department of Health and Human Services, child protection
  • Community health nurses
  • Other support agencies

The MDC Coordinator role will ensure greater coordination of the governance, strategic planning, data collection, and joint training for Barwon and Wyndham MDCs. This position will also assist in a more timely resolution of MDC matters and will create a two way information exchange between central statewide coordination offices and the MDC.

This position is a newly established position and is one of two new positions of its kind within the MDC network.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Manage and drive the continuous improvement, strategic direction, joint training and local governance of the MDC
  • Optimise collaboration between key MDC partner agencies
  • Develop, maintain and promote positive working relationships within the MDC and with relevant stakeholders, including local community service providers and groups
  • Preparing high quality and comprehensive briefs, written reports and correspondence.
  • Articulating data trends, opportunities and risks presenting at MDCs and as a result of other environmental influences

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Strong communication skills; including the ability to write high quality concise reports, briefs and correspondence as well as highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Strong stakeholder engagement
  • Confident and authoritative decision making
  • Experience in organisational change management
  • Strong leadership skills

Requirements and relevant information:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in community services, business management or Government would be highly desirable
  • The incumbent will be required to complete the OHS requirements of the organisation
  • The successful candidate will be required to undertake routine travel or work from multiple locations within similar geographical locations
  • Additional intra/interstate travel may be required to support the delivery of Branch, Division and Department objectives. Any travel entitlements will be determined in accordance with the relevant Enterprise Bargaining Agreement for Victorian Public Servants and Victoria Police

*This position can be based at either Barwon or Wyndham MDC; however you will be expected to work from the alternate locations:

  • Wyndham MDC – 236 Hoppers Lane Werribee (regularly)
  • Barwon MDC – 59-63 Spring Street Geelong West
  • Victoria Police Centre – 637 Flinders Street Melbourne (intermittently)
