  • Working within the Prosecutions Division, Legal Services Department located at Morwell Police Station, 8-10 Hazelwood Rd, Morwell 3840*


About the role:
As the successful applicant, you will need to demonstrate an ability to manage busy court lists and competing priorities effectively whilst managing your files. The role offers an opportunity to tailor your skills to an array of matters that vary in complexity. You will be expected to perform caseload management and offer legal advice and information to a range of clients. You may have to work closely with external stakeholders to ensure cooperative and proactive approaches to management of files.

In addition to the above responsibilities, some of this role's key duties include:

  • The day to day management of files
  • Appearing in the Magistrate's Court (including the Family Violence, Drug Court and/or Assessment and Referral Court lists) and the Children's Court on behalf of Victoria Police.
  • Maintaining statistics and records for relevant matters to assist in the reporting processes.
  • Appearing in criminal matters in the Magistrate's Court as required.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Admission to practice as an Australian Lawyer (Unrestricted Practising Certificate).
  • Ability to work in a team, in a developing and emerging work environment.
  • High level of resilience and emotional intelligence.
  • High level understanding and experience as a court advocate
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring and developing junior Lawyers
  • A current and valid Drivers' Licence.

 
Requirements and relevant information:

  • This position may require you to work outside normal hours. This may include, Shift work, some Public Holidays and Weekends. Shift allowances will be paid in accordance with the relevant Victorian Public Service Agreement.
  • In exchange for your hard work, you will receive 17.5% leave loading, time in lieu for extra time worked and access to a comprehensive learning and development program to enhance your professional development.

*Your usual place of work will be within the Prosecutions Division (Legal & Prosecutions Specialist Branch), Legal Services Department, however you may be required to work at any other division or metropolitan location within the Department as required.

Your position will commence at

  • Morwell Prosecutions at the at Morwell Police Station

However, given occasional legal service demand issues you may be required at times to undertake varied work within the Legal Services Department and in particular the Southern Prosecutions area and the courts it services:

  • Morwell
  • Korumburra
  • Wonthaggi
  • Sale
  • Bairnsdale
