Project Administrator

Working in the Hydra Unit, your main responsibility will be to manage the Hydra control room and ensure the smooth delivery of Hydra Exercises. Hydra is a computer based immersive simulator. The exercise scenarios are managed from the control room by a Hydra Operator, who will report to you. You’ll provide technical support for the Hydra system and control room to ensure the system and hardware is fully functional. The Police members in the Unit will rely on your administrative support as a member of their Project Teams to develop new Hydra Exercises.

The role will also be creating new exercises within the Hydra system and produce the exercise documents.

About the role:

You'll provide other services to the Unit which will depend on the needs at the time but may include but not limited to: assisting in the review of Hydra Exercises, managing the Hydra Booking system, reviewing procedures, reporting, undertaking OH&S inspections, taking meeting minutes, script writing and editing film.

Your duties will include:

  • Reporting to the Unit Manager or Second in Charge.
  • Managing the technology that supports the Hydra system and provide technical advice.
  • Working with Project Managers as part of their project team to develop Hydra Exercises (educational products).
  • Managing and developing a Hydra Operator/ Administrative Support Officer (VPS2).
  • Provide support to Hydra clients and facilitators.
  • Ensuring the Unit procedures, exercise documents are accurate.
  • Updating documents and files.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing IT systems, hardware and networks.
  • High standard of organisation and had exposure to project management.
  • Interest and innovative approach to developing simulations; computer games/ educational eLearning products and/ or film production writing and editing.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to problem solve and provide advice.
  • High level communication and relationship building skills.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) full time, ongoing position available, working within the Hydra Unit, Capability Development Division, People Development Command located at the Victoria Police Academy 1 View Mt Rd, Glen Waverley.
  • The successful applicant may be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
