Senior Analyst

An opportunity exists for a Senior Analyst to join the Victoria Police Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network Unit (VPAU). The VPAU is situated within the Intelligence Collection Liaison Unit (ICLU), Intelligence and Covert Support Command (ICSC).

The Victoria Police Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network Unit (VPAU) receives reports of cybercrime via the national ACORN portal currently facilitated by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC). The ACORN is a national initiative that enables members of the public to report instances of cybercrime online.

Position Details

The VPAU is responsible for assessing, conducting initial investigations, value adding to and disseminating reports of cybercrime to the appropriate workgroup within Victoria Police or an external jurisdiction. The successful applicant will pay a key role in identifying emerging cybercrime trends and developing strategies to disrupt technology enabled criminal activity.

You will be a natural communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills. A significant part of your duties will include training, developing and mentoring less experienced analysts. You will be expected to provide leadership, guidance and assistance.

As a Senior Analyst, you will be joining a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary team led by a Detective Sergeant and comprising of Intelligence Analysts and Intelligence Support Officers.

Your duties will include:

  • Identifying and assessing emerging cybercrime trends;
  • Planning, researching and developing strategic assessments;
  • Training mentoring and developing less experienced Analysts;
  • Compiling routine management reports;
  • Researching and preparing intelligence products;
  • Liaising with and developing networks with both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Assessing, validating and building upon the output of other team members.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Proven experience as an Intelligence Analyst;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Experience and confidence in using a variety of Information Technology systems;
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills;
  • The ability to identify, respond and adapt to emerging issues in a fast-changing environment.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • Your usual place of work will be within the State Intelligence Division, Intelligence and Covert Support Command. However, you may be required to work at any other division within the Command as needed;
  • Any experience or tertiary qualifications in the fields of  Intelligence, Information Technology or Cybersecurity, would be highly regarded, but are not essential;
  • To be eligible to apply for the position the successful applicant must have completed all modules of a Victoria Police approved Intelligence Program within 18 months from enrolment;
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
