About the role:

The Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) sits within Victoria Police's Crime Command and provides Victoria Police with a specialist crime investigation capability relating to all facets of child exploitation. JACET maintain current up to date expertise in modern trends, technologies and advances in this work theme.

The JACET's local area is the online world.   Therefore it is not confined by geographical boundaries. Investigators often liaise with their counterparts interstate and overseas through liaison officers and where overseas offenders are identified, they refer their details to overseas LEAs for attention.

The successful applicant will be working as part of a team producing intelligence briefs / products which identify emerging trends and risks in serious and organised crime.  The process includes:

  • Liaison with other intelligence analysts both within and external to Crime Command
  • Working with stakeholders to develop Intelligence Product Proposals (IPP)
  • Conducting information collection individually and as part of a team
  • Analysis of the resultant information to produce an Intelligence Brief (IB)
  • Participating in workgroup meetings and the tasking and coordination process
  • Proactive scanning of future risks.
  • Support Strategic reports and thinking.

Your duties will include:

  • Undertake the collection, evaluation, collation, analysis and controlled dissemination of information in respect of investigations/situations.
  • Make high quality recommendations in respect of the analysis of intelligence and statistical data, identification and evaluation of emerging patterns and trends in crime, organised criminal activity, public order, road policing areas, or family violence.
  • Identify, assess and report on specific targets or target areas.
  • Access and utilise a variety of computer systems and applications in order to collect and effectively manage, maintain, prepare and deliver intelligence and information relating to significant policing priorities and/or, targeted and recidivist criminals.
  • Liaise with and develop a good working relationship with potential sources of information from inside and outside the Victoria Police in order to obtain assistance in the provision of timely and accurate intelligence.
  • Prepare routine management reports, develop and maintain computer based intelligence applications and holdings as well as manual information systems to assist the intelligence process.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of developments and initiatives relevant to intelligence analysis and intelligence systems and provide input to the development and maintenance of these systems.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Experience in research and analysis and preferably knowledge of, or experience in, intelligence analysis, criminology, criminal justice, science, technology, mathematics or other relevant academic disciplines.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills and proven ability to plan and organise work and produce high quality results.
  • Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills including the ability to review a variety of information and identify trends, patterns and issues and provide advice.
  • An understanding of the customer service requirements of the position and a demonstrated record of strong commitment and achievement in meeting customer needs.
  • A proven record of ethical behaviour and adherance to organisational values

  • JACET is located within the 313 Spencer Street police complex located at 313 Spencer Street, Melbourne, 3009
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head.  To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. OR Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
