Position Details
Sitting within the Road Policing Strategy Division (RPSD), the primary role of the Road Policing Intelligence Unit (RPIU) is to support Road Policing in achieving its road safety objectives under the Victorian Government's Road Safety Strategy and the Victoria Police Road Safety Strategy, by providing timely and insightful intelligence to assist with operational and strategic decision making.
As the successful applicant, you will be working as part of the team supporting the Tasking and Coordination Unit to support the deployment of centralised road policing resources. The Senior Analyst contributes to Road Policing by delivering timely, accurate and evidence-based analysis that supports decision making, for both internal strategy and intelligence led enforcement activities. Working within the complex road safety and policing landscape, the role integrates data, intelligence, information and research from multiple sources to assess sustained and emerging issues, trends and risks.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the successful applicant will apply intelligence tradecraft, critical thinking and professional judgement to complex and often ambiguous challenges. They will produce high-quality briefs, assessments, and advice while contributing to the development of the Road Policing intelligence capability.
As the successful applicant, you will be working closely with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including frontline police members, intelligence practitioners and road safety partner agencies. The Senior Analyst reports to the Intelligence Manager of the Unit and will contribute to operational and strategic intelligence functions.

As part of the responsibilities of this position, the successful applicant will review and analyse information relating to road trauma, both fatalities and injuries. This work involves exposure to sensitive and potentially distressing material. Applicants are encouraged to consider their capacity to undertake work involving regular exposure to such content.

Your duties will include:
- Contribute to the Unit's proactive scanning program, through leading the development of priority road policing portfolios, and proactively monitoring the road policing environment to maintain situational awareness.
- Collect and collate information and data from a range of sources, including extracting, validating, cleaning and managing datasets. Assess the accuracy and reliability of information, identify and address data quality and integrity issues, and maintain integrated datasets including incorporating crash, transport, network and population data.
- Performing both qualitative and quantitative analysis (statistical and geospatial) using a diverse range of data sources. Applying structured analytical techniques to complex problems to identify existing and emerging risks, issues and trends.
- Produce accurate and insightful intelligence products to assist decision makers in responding to road policing issues, including insights informing the deployment of centralised policing resources.
- Proactively identify opportunities to expand, enhance and better utilise available data holdings, systems and tools.
- Developing and maintaining good working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve shared objectives.
About You:
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
- Applies critical thinking, enjoys solving complex problems and making sense of uncertainty.
- Well-developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify key insights from diverse information sources, evaluate competing perspectives and produce balanced, evidence-based assessments.
- Demonstrated strong communication, analytical and research skills along with sound judgement and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to plan and manage competing priorities in order to meet defined/agreed targets and deadlines.
- Comfortable engaging with stakeholders, presenting complex information clearly and contributing to team outcomes.
- Drives innovation and continuous improvement by identifying better ways of working, sharing ideas and improving processes.
- Supports capability development by applying expertise, collaborating with others and promoting effective use of data and analytical tools.
- Tertiary qualifications or experience working in any of: intelligence, data analytics, behavioural science, research, law enforcement, road safety or geospatial science would be highly desirable.
- The successful applicant is required to complete the modules of a Victoria Police approved Intelligence Program relevant to the role and qualify within 18 months from enrolment.

- This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
- The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
