About the Unit
The Education and Training Group (ETG) is composed of Forensic Officers and sworn police members. The unit is responsible for the construction, delivery, assessment and oversight of training and education products in support of Victoria Police and Forensic Services Department services and objectives.
The ETG is aligned with the Office of the Chief Forensic Scientist as an entity independent of Forensic Operations. As a Group within the OCFS, it is expected to provide overarching governance, expert support and tailored advice to Operational areas across FSD to ensure that the service delivered to Victoria Police and the Victorian community is of the highest quality and aligned to best scientific and education principles.
About the role
- Communicate and support education and training activities including continuous professional development, across FSD to ensure alignment with contemporary adult education practices and competency-based training and assessment.
- Provide advice, guidance, support and governance to FSD in the area of education and training.
- Act as a conduit between external stakeholders and the delivery of FSD education and training products.
- Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of common training units as required.
- Work closely with Group managers and Unit leaders to maintain training records
- Maintain open lines of communication including intranet and PBEA with all stakeholders.
Your duties will include:
- Provide timely advice and solutions, using a range of communication media, to stakeholders on issues related to education and training proposals, projects/programs and portfolios.
- Identify training needs for internal and external stakeholders and deliver or coordinate training to meet these needs.
- Support the Group Manager and the Senior Education & Training Specialist in the ongoing development of the Education & Training Unit and departmental instructors by providing leadership, guidance and targeted communications as required.
- Develop and maintain broad communication channels to the organisation and external stakeholders in relation to the services provided by FSD
- Help to communicate advice and research on educational standards for the development and delivery of forensic science training within the FSD
- Coordinate the delivery of common training units/programs across FSD
- Perform the secretariat role for the Strategic Education & Advisory Committee
- Manage and maintain the Forensic Library to service education and research needs of the FSD.
- Develop and maintain public engagement strategies to foster community confidence and safety.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
- A relevant approved degree or equivalent experience in instruction or teaching is required.
- Current competency in MS Office Suite of products and web-based publishing is desirable.
- Experience or relevant qualification in project management is an advantage.
Requirements and relevant information:
- Position will be located at 31 Forensic Drive Macleod 3085.
- 1 x VPS-5 fulltime fixed term position available to 30.06.2027.
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
- Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
- The successful candidate will be required to provide a DNA sample (buccal swab) for use in laboratory quality control procedures (elimination purposes only)
- The incumbent must possess a Victorian Drivers Licence and the ability to obtain a Victoria Police Approved Drivers Authority.
