Hospital Assistant - Grade 1

Casuals Food Services


Albury Wodonga Health – Albury and Wodonga campuses and offsite units require casuals to join our Food services departments.

Opportunity exists to work at locations within Beechworth and Wangaratta.

Hospital Assistants within Food Services are responsible for the preparation and delivery of food services for patients, staff and other identified clients; working in café areas and ensuring the kitchen environment is compliant with regulations and Food Safety Plan guidelines.

Primary responsibilities of these roles include: 

Food services

  • Delivery and collection of patient/client meals and beverages
  • Preparation of food items and meal components including assembly of meal trays  
  • Ware washing and general cleaning
  • Complying and Adhering to Food Safety plans 
  • Provision of excellent Customer service

Candidates meeting the following mandatory criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Food Handling certificate or equivalent
  • Demonstrated High Level knowledge of Food Safety Principles
  • Confirmed experience in a Food services environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation and hygiene
  • Demonstrated Excellent oral & written communication skills
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and adapt to change
  • Proven ability to organise and prioritise work tasks and working within time restraints
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of high level quality and customer focused services


Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Victorian Public Health (professionals, health and allied services, managers & administrative officers) 2011 - 2015


Successful applicants will be required to complete appropriate Criminal Record Screening paperwork/processes in order for AWH to meet its obligations regarding screening for serious criminal offences (within and external to Australia).  Applicants unable to commit to this screening process should not submit an application for employment.


Successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory orientation modules using the AWH e-learning system prior to commencing employment.


This is a Category B position.
