High Dependency Unit Support Nurse

Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 1

Fixed Term Contract ending 29 June 2018

 

Albury Wodonga Health – Albury Hospital  requires a clinical nurse specialist to join our acute  inpatient mental health team, Nolan House. The HDU Support Nurse will utilise advanced clinical knowledge and judgement supporting mental health intensive nursing care in the high dependency unit environment.

 

Primary responsibilities of this role

  • Work side by side with HDU nurses to deliver planned intensive nursing care
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team reviews and processes as they relate to HDU clients and other clients identified as potentially requiring HDU care
  • Provide high level practice translation in a context that is trauma informed, gender sensitive and gender safe, and supports the 6 core principles of recovery
  • Assist with, and when required, lead the identification of clear HDU nursing objectives and evaluation of nursing outcomes
  • Through mentoring contribute to the management of the HDU milieu fostering the implementation of safety plans including live appraisal of the dynamic and changing environment.
  • Promote responsiveness, recognition of early signs of clinical deterioration, and clear indications for intentional and judicious intervention
  • Promote effective communication and engagement strategies between clients and staff, and the establishment and re-establishment of the therapeutic alliance
  • In the lead-in period to Safewards training, provide role modelling for sensory modulation utilizing selected Safewards interventions such as ‘soft words', ‘talk down', ‘positive words', and ‘calm down methods'
  • Join with the Nolan House team in the training for Safewards and participate in the unit establishment program, particularly focusing on implementation in the HDU

Candidates meeting the following mandatory criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Current  registration  with  the  Australian  Health  Professionals  Regulation  Agency  as a Registered Nurse.
  • Post graduate qualifications in mental health nursing, with at least 3 years' experience in clinical mental health nurse practice
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge and skill in acute mental health nursing and grounding  in the principles of recovery, trauma informed care, and gender  sensitive practice

 

Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the PUBLIC HEALTH SYSTEM NURSES' AND MIDWIVES' (STATE) AWARD 2017

 

Successful applicants will be required to complete appropriate Criminal Record Screening paperwork/processes in order for AWH to meet its obligations regarding screening for serious criminal offences (within and external to Australia).  Applicants unable to commit to this screening process should not submit an application for employment.

 

Successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory orientation modules using the AWH e-learning system prior to commencing employment.

 

This is a Category A  position.  Successful applicants of Category A positions must provide evidence of vaccination prior to commencement.
