Hospital Assistant - Grade 1

Casuals Cleaning services


Albury Wodonga campuses and offsite units require casuals to join our Environmental services departments.

Opportunity also exists to work at AWH Units located at Beechworth and Wangaratta.


Hospital Assistants within Environmental Services are responsible for the cleaning and servicing of assigned areas in the health environment including waste disposal and linen services.


Primary responsibilities of these roles include: 

Environmental services

  • Cleaning of Patient and non-patient areas on or off campus including restricted areas (isolation, emergency, theatre, Birth suite and Mental Health areas)
  • Waste Collection and appropriate disposal of waste streams.
  • Linen restocking and soiled line collection.  
  • Provision of excellent Customer service

Candidates meeting the following mandatory criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cleaning Principles
  • Confirmed experience in a cleaning environment including use of cleaning equipment
  • Demonstrated  knowledge of Infection Control Principles
  • Demonstrated Excellent oral & written communication skills
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and adapt to change
  • Proven ability to organise and prioritise work tasks and working within time restraints
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of high level quality and customer focused services


Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the

Victorian Public Health (professionals, health and allied services, managers & administrative officers) 2011 - 2015


Successful applicants will be required to complete appropriate Criminal Record Screening paperwork/processes in order for AWH to meet its obligations regarding screening for serious criminal offences (within and external to Australia).  Applicants unable to commit to this screening process should not submit an application for employment.


Successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory orientation modules using the AWH e-learning system prior to commencing employment.


This is a Category B position.
