Medication Safety Pharmacist – Grade 2

Permanent part time position

The Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) Pharmacy Department comprises of 9 Pharmacists, 6 Technicians and 2 Graduate Pharmacists. Primary responsibilities of the Medication Safety Pharmacist include:


  1. Regular reviews / audits of medication-related services that may contribute to medication errors.
  2. Develop, implement, report and evaluate interventions to improve safety and quality of medicine use
  3. Lead engagement with pharmacists, nurses (including clinical nurse educators) and medical staff to implement and sustain process improvements at ward level
  4. Provide secretariat support for Medication Safety Committee (MSC), Medication Safety Working Group, and other committees and specialty streams as required (such as preparation of status report, incident report, and Pharmacy Phacts Newsletter)
  5. Develop, implement and report key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of AWH Medication Safety Program
  6. Provide education and training to increase awareness of medication safety and quality to Medical, Nursing and Pharmacy staff including co-ordination of monthly pharmacy newsletter and patient leaflets
  7. Coordinate development of clinical guidelines, procedures and drug protocols to improve the safety and quality of medicines use.
  8. Remain up to date on literature relating to quality and safety of medicine use.
  9. Undertake other duties as directed such as weekend roster and on-call Roster (approx. 1 in 9), late-shift, and relief secondment in other pharmacist positions as necessary
  10. Completion of mandatory training as required
  11. Commitment to AWH procedures including Infection Control, Occupational Health and Safety and other procedures as relevant to the work area


The position is required to work at the Albury and Wodonga Hospital campuses.


Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the NSW State Employees Pharmacists (STATE) Award 2017


Successful applicants will be required to complete appropriate National Police Check, Working with Children Check and evidence of vaccination prior to appointment.

Successful applicants will also be required to complete mandatory orientation modules using the AWH e-learning system prior to commencing employment.
