 Post Graduate Diploma in Midwifery  

Commencing February 2019

 Midwifery Student Positions Available


The Postgraduate Diploma of Midwifery is a combined paid and unpaid model, which has been designed to allow Registered Nurses to be employed as student midwives for 10 - 12 months. Clinical midwifery skills are gained at Albury Wodonga Health Wodonga Hospital whilst studying the theoretical component through distance education at La Trobe University Bendigo Campus.

Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) Wodonga Hospital (WH) has positions available for 6 Registered Nurses interested in completing their Graduate Diploma in Midwifery.


  • 10 - 12 month program, for students at 0.6 EFT (3 days per week - paid) and 0.2 EFT (1 day per week – unpaid) each.
  • Provided externally through LaTrobe University, Bendigo Campus, Commonwealth Supported Places are available. 
  • Students are employed part time (3 days per week) whilst studying.
  • Post Graduate Study Leave to attend mandatory residential school.
  • Dedicated Midwifery Student Facilitator, Clinical Support nurse. Supernumerary time at 0.2 EFT (1 day per week – unpaid) is available to enable the student to fulfil the clinical requirements.
  • Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Nurse and Midwives Enterprise Agreement 2016-2020.


Requirements for applicants:

  • Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, Registered Nurse.
  • Completion of graduate year is a minimum requirement.      
  • Cover letter.
  • Address the selection criteria.
  • Current CV which includes 3 current acute nursing referees.
  • Successful applicants are required to pass all elements of the course in order to remain within the program.
  • Applicants need to be available for interview in October 2018.

Successful applicants will be required to complete appropriate Criminal Record Screening paperwork/processes in order for AWH to meet its obligations regarding screening for serious criminal offences (within and external to Australia).  Applicants unable to commit to this screening process should not submit an application for employment.

Successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory orientation modules using the AWH e-learning system prior to commencing employment.

This is a Category A position; Successful applicants must provide evidence of vaccination prior to commencement.
