Full-time permanent position


Albury Wodonga Health requires a Director Strategic Procurement & Contracting. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for the effective management of Strategic Procurement & Contracting function of the organisation.


Primary responsibilities of this role are:

  • Provide strategic leadership and expertise in best practice procurement including participation in the development and maintenance of procurement governance, policies and procedures.
  • Lead the development of contract management reforms, including the move to a category management and supplier relationship management approach.
  • Manage a range of major tenders from procurement planning through to award and major contracts
  • Identify and develop innovative solutions and required strategies to improve AWH's strategic procurement and contract management maturity level.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships and strategic alliances with external agencies, and vendors and across AWH.
  • Support the role and functions of the Chief Procurement Officer (CPO).
  • Initiate and provide high-level strategic advice to the Chief Executive, members of the Senior Management Team in relation to strategic procurement and contract matters.
  • Lead the research and analysis of market trends and best practice to ensure sourcing and procurement strategies and approaches are current, risks are identified and governance frameworks are effective, and insight is gained through the analysis of costs, benefits and supply markets.
  • Provide expert advice to key stakeholders on all aspects of procurement to encourage innovative practices and support delivery of business and policy directions.
  • Identify and manage commercial, contractual, operational, financial, reputational, ethical and supplier performance risks to minimise negative impacts on organisational objectives while encouraging opportunity and innovation.
  • Establish performance standards and evaluation processes to assess and report on procurement activity in terms of progress, results, customer satisfaction, value and cost
  • Providing leadership and expertise in negotiation to all AWH Contracts Managers and provide an escalation point as well as leadership/involvement in high level supplier negotiations as required

  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of quality technical advice and leadership on Procurement and Contracting Strategies
  • Well-developed knowledge and experience in guiding and leading high level/complex strategic sourcing projects and experience in leading innovation in procurement
  • Strong project management and planning expertise including ability to analyse and report on complex issues, evaluate associated benefits and strategies
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships, negotiate, drive change and improvements and provide clear high level advice and support
  • High level written communication skills necessary for the formulation of cogent policy briefs, quality strategies, policies and frameworks


Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Health and Allied Services, Managers and Administrative Workers Enterprise Agreement 2016-2020.
