Children's Counsellor (VAN) – Grade 2

Permanent part time- 0.84EFT (4 days per week)


Albury Wodonga Health – Albury Community Health Service requires a Child Protection Counsellor to join our Counselling team.  Albury Community Health Service, Violence, Abuse & Neglect (VAN) counselling team consists of adult counsellors, sexual assault counsellors and a children's counsellor. 

This position has responsibility for providing therapeutic support and advocacy to children and Young people who have experienced various types of abuse or neglect.  Referrals to this program are for children and young people who have had Family and Community Service (FaCs) involvement in their lives, a core piece of the work is with the child and young person's families and / or significant others.

Candidates meeting the following mandatory criteria are encouraged to apply:

Tertiary qualification in Social Work with eligibility for membership to AASW or

Degree Clinical Psychology or Occupational Therapy with membership to AHPRA who has specialist training in child counselling.

  • Can demonstrate experience in utilising a range of therapeutic interventions that assist children and young people and their families to respond to the experience of trauma, abusive or harmful interactions in personal relationships.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of all types of child abuse and neglect and the impact of maltreatment upon children, young people and their families.
  • Can display the ability to work in a trauma sensitive and family focussed framework.

Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with;

NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award. Level 2.

Health and Community Employees Psychologists (State) Award

Successful applicants will be required to complete appropriate Criminal Record Screening paperwork/processes in order for AWH to meet its obligations regarding screening for serious criminal offences (within and external to Australia).  Applicants unable to commit to this screening process should not submit an application for employment.

Successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory orientation modules using the AWH e-learning system prior to commencing employment.


This is a Category A position.  Successful applicants of Category A positions must provide evidence of vaccination prior to commencement.
