Unaccredited Registrar Psychiatry

Full-Time Position

Albury Wodonga Health has an exciting opportunity for an Unaccredited Registrar in Psychiatry who wants to join a supportive team and continue to develop skills in the assessment and treatment of inpatient clients. Kerferd Unit is a 20 bed inpatient unit located within the North East Health Wangaratta precinct.

Candidates meeting the following mandatory criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • Currently registered or eligible for registration with AHPRA
  • MBBS or equivalent degree
  • At least two years post-graduate experience with recent experience in inpatient mental health and a demonstrated interest in continuing in the field
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills including the ability to work within multidisciplinary teams
  • Demonstrated commitment to rural / regional practice 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Admit, manage and discharge patients from the service under the supervision of the Clinical Director of Mental Health with the aim of providing the highest possible standards of care.
  2. Fulfil statutory requirements under the Mental Health Act Victoria and ensure that relevant legislation is accurately interpreted and utilised and that documentation is promptly completed.
  3. Participate in after-hours on-call roster and attend daytime crisis calls in designated area of clinical responsibility.
  4. Provide consultation support to the Community Mental Health service and other hospital units, particularly Emergency Department, as required.
  5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplace.
  6. Practice in accordance with North East Border Mental Health Service philosophies, policies, procedures and standards; this includes establishing and maintaining appropriate client records and complying with management information system requirements.
  7. Ensure effective discharge planning of patients including written communication and/or discharge summary provided at, or close to the time of, discharge and forwarded to all necessary Medical Practitioners.

Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the AMA Victoria – Victorian Public Health Sector – Medical Specialists Enterprise Agreement 2018-2021

Successful applicants will be required to complete appropriate Criminal Record Screening paperwork/processes in order for AWH to meet its obligations regarding screening for serious criminal offences (within and external to Australia).  Applicants unable to commit to this screening process should not submit an application for employment.

Successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory orientation modules using the AWH e-learning system prior to commencing employment.

This is a Category A position.  Successful applicants of Category A positions must provide evidence of vaccination prior to commencement.
