Transition to Specialty Practice (TSP Program) Perioperative

Registered Nurse – Grade 2

Fixed term (Feb 2020 - Feb 2021) – 0.9EFT


Applications are sought from Registered Nurses who have just completed their graduate year or in their second year of practice who are seeking career exposure and experience in perioperative nursing.


The successful applicant with be supported to learn all areas of perioperative nursing as per the Perioperative Capability Framework – Anaesthetics, Recovery, Instrument, & Circulating nursing. They will have access to perioperative educator, ACORN standards and may have an opportunity to have cross campus placements.  Our TSP program is designed to provide the registered nurse with the skills, knowledge and attributes that are required to transition into perioperative nursing and potential preparation for Post Graduate Specialty study in 2021.


This position is a fixed term, full time for 12 months so that there is an opportunity for nurses with no experience to enter the perioperative field. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to apply for available position at either campus on the completion of the year. They will also be eligible to apply for the post-graduate perioperative course.


Primary responsibilities of the role:

  • Participate in daily provision of perioperative services
  • Patient care and advocacy
  • As experience progresses throughout the year may fulfill on call requirements

Salary and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Nurse and Midwives (State) Award 2018.


Successful applicants will be required to complete appropriate Criminal Record Screening paperwork/processes in order for AWH to meet its obligations regarding screening for serious criminal offences (within and external to Australia).  Applicants unable to commit to this screening process should not submit an application for employment.


Successful applicants will be required to complete mandatory orientation modules using the AWH e-learning system prior to commencing employment.


This is a Category A position.  Successful applicants of Category A positions must provide evidence of vaccination prior to commencement.
