Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) in Maryborough, Victoria is looking for enthusiastic and motivated midwives to join our newly established Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) team. Having successfully appointed MGP midwives to commence in our MGP we are planning for the anticipated growth this model of care will generate.

This is your opportunity to join our growing team at the beginning of an exciting journey for the health service and our local community.

The proposed MoC has been developed by a Project Governance Committee including representation from Safer Care Victoria, Department of Health, the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Federation, local consumer representation and other local stakeholders.

This is a unique opportunity for dedicated and passionate midwives to be involved in shaping their own working environment and our maternity services more broadly.

At MDHS you will experience working across the full scope of midwifery practice in both the hospital and community environments. Once the MoC is operationalised, MPG midwives will provide care for an allocated group of women and will collaborate with other healthcare workers to provide care through the continuum of pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period. MGP midwives will work closely with core staff midwives rostered to the acute medical/surgical ward.

Our maternity services team is led by a consultant obstetrician and a Maternity Services Coordinator. We have two General Practice Obstetricians that work on a rotating roster. MDHS is geographically located approximately half way between the regional centres of Ballarat and Bendigo. We have excellent collaborative relationships with these higher level health services, which facilitate shared pregnancy care for higher risk women closer to home.

Maryborough really is the perfect location for any midwife wanting to work across the full scope of midwifery practice, with a varied caseload and fantastic opportunities for professional growth. Strong relationships with higher level regional services mean that you are able to maintain skills by continual exposure to higher acuity settings, while being based in a small, low risk service.

The rural location provides the perfect setting for down time away from work, and is easy commuting distance from regional centres and Melbourne.

Expressions of interest are sought for midwives wanting to work in this exciting new MGP.

There is a requirement to work on call as part of your roster to meet the care needs of women.  MGP roles will be offered at 0.7 FTE as permanent ongoing positions.

0.6 FTE is to be worked in the MGP (with a proportional caseload)

0.1 FTE is to be worked in a rostered (above ratio) capacity at Ballarat Health Services

We are looking for someone with the following qualities:

  • Embrace and promote the values of MDHS – Genuine, Respect, Excellence, Accountability & Togetherness
  • Excellent communication skills- both verbally and written
  • Woman-centred care, with excellent relationship building skills
  • Great organisational skills with particular respect to time management
  • Basic Life Support Certificate

What's in it for you?

  • Great Working Environment – Join a group of motivated health care professionals with a Permanent contract. Opportunity to join the Social Club, offering a wide range of social events and local retail discounts.
  • Fantastic Earning Potential – Generous Base Salary under the Nurses and Midwives EBA with Salary Packaging available.
