Position Details

The Investigations Officer (Building) role provides an important service to the Victorian community conducting investigations into breaches of the building legislation, regulations and professional standards. This involves conducting interviews, preparing reports and detailed briefs of evidence, participating in court proceedings, providing advice and information to the building industry.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate escalated complaints raised with the VBA regarding breaches or offences of the Building Act 1993 or the Building Regulations 2018.
  • Meet with internal and external stakeholders, obtain statements, collect and gather evidence and conduct records of interview.
  • Collate briefs of evidence and present this evidence before the court.

 

 Key Selection Criteria 

To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate:

  • professional etiquette with the ability to work independently and use initiative;
  • excellent writing skills;
  • well-developed decision-making skills;
  • ability to conduct records of interview;
  • ability to read and interpret legislation; and
  • well-developed report writing skills.

 

Specialist Expertise 

Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or higher, or demonstrated experience in conducting investigations, is essential.

 

Salary Details

A base salary in the VPS Grade 5 range of $98,396 to $108,724 + super.
