Nurse Unit Manager – Perioperative Services

Permanent Full Time – 80 hours per fortnight

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a progressive team who provide surgical services to our local and wider community. The Theatre NUM role will enable the successful candidate to take the next step in their leadership career and be actively involved daily operations and additional initiatives.

Theatre operates 6 days per week with a variety of lists including general surgery, scopes, ENT and gynaecology.  This role is responsible for providing customer-oriented clinical, operational leadership to the team and ongoing development of practice guidelines and protocols in concert with collaborative patient management.

Qualifications / Experience

  1. Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  2. Current knowledge and experience in Operating Procedures, Pre Admissions and Sterilising Operations, with relevant Post Graduate qualifications or working towards same
  3. Demonstrated excellence in leadership and management competencies

Specialist Expertise

  1. Advanced clinical nursing skills with experience in peri-operative nursing
  2. Experience in change management and development of new services
  3. High level of skill in analysis and interpretation of clinical data and clinical decision making
  4. Knowledge of relevant legislation, including a working knowledge of the National Standards
  5. Knowledge of AS4187, GENCA and ACCORN compliance requirements
  6. Manages and engages with stakeholders consistent with MDHS values of GREAT
  7. A highly developed knowledge of, and commitment to, Quality Management and accreditation processes
  8. Ability to act as mentor or preceptor to less experienced nurses, including students and graduate nurses

  2. High level written and verbal communication skills
  3. Commitment to ongoing education and professional development to ensure working within current scope of practice
  4. Strong leadership skills demonstrated by knowledge of contemporary Human Resource policies and procedures, workforce needs, reward and recognition programs and performance management processes
