MDHS Registered Nurse or Endorsed Enrolled Nurse - Transition to Practice Graduate Program 

Permanent Part Time – 48-64 hours per fortnight

Program Overview

Maryborough District Health Service's (MDHS) Registered Nurse or Endorsed Enrolled Nurse Transition to Practice Graduate Program is an exciting way to begin your career.  The aim of the program is to facilitate a smooth transition from nursing graduate to being a competent, confident Registered Nurse or Endorsed Enrolled Nurse.

The quality of nursing care rests on the knowledge, skills and values of nurse clinicians.  For new nursing Graduates, commencement of nursing practice is a crucial period of intensive, rewarding and learning in a stimulating and positive environment.  For the nursing staff it is an opportunity to foster the expertise of new practitioners to ensure that the future health care needs of the population are met.

The MDHS program offers graduates the opportunity to experience regional and rural nursing through a structured rotational process including paid study days and debriefing sessions that focus on clinical decision-making, person-centred care, and professional practice.

Graduates may undertake rotations through clinical areas across 3 MDHS campuses:  Maryborough, Dunolly and Avoca including acute and specialty areas.

Successful candidates will obtain a Permanent contract with MDHS, as follows:

-       Year 1: RN or EEN Transition to Practice Program

-       Year 2:  RN Year 2 or EEN Specialty Program, with encouragement to complete Post Graduate studies in their chosen area.

-       Year 3: RN or EEN Permanent Nurse Pool, where you have the opportunity to continue working with MDHS in a range of departments as required across the heath service, unless other internal recruitment occurs prior.

Graduate Nurse Support is provided by:

  • Clinical support, mentorship and organisational education opportunities;
  • Supernumerary and orientation time are provided within the program structure, as is Annual Leave per the EBA
  • Paid study days spread throughout the program with additional study days offered
  • Regular debriefing;
  • Access to a variety of interactive E-Learning programs including targeted online CPD topics to assist your development.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions.

Technical/Professional Knowledge and Skills

  • Sound understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Registered Nurse
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors and staff at all levels within the organisation
  • Ability to practice collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of and involvement in evidence-based practice and research activities
  • Commitment to ongoing education and professional development to ensure working within current scope of practice
  • Excellent organisational skills particularly with respect to time management
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication and computer skills at the level required to fulfil that role

Qualifications / Experience

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborating with others to deliver outcomes
  • Demonstrates awareness of own values and beliefs surrounding healthcare with an ability to identify and respect an alternative view
  • Awareness of limitations in own knowledge and seek appropriate education and training
    as required
  • Presentation of oneself in a professional and respectful manner
  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively in both written and verbal forms
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
