SENIOR APPLIED SCIENTIST – WASTE AND CHEMISTRY
This role works closely with the Team Leader Contaminated Environments and Waste, leading EPAs scientific response to complex waste problems, recommending solutions, understanding environmental impacts and communicating these internally and externally. The role will support the team and the Applied Sciences Group in delivering strategic projects and establishing the scientific rationale for policy decisions. This role supports the work of the unit and EPA’s strategic annual plan by transforming into an effective organisation. This role may be required for after hours, emergency and/or other response activities.
Working across the business, you will use your knowledge of waste and waste chemistry to identify sources of pollution and provide advice for remediation of waste issues. You will lead the science input to regulatory decisions that underpin waste regulation and guidance for industries in Victoria, and assess technical reports for complex waste management proposals.
What you bring
Tertiary qualification and/or 5 years minimum relevant experience in applied chemistry, chemical engineering, waste management and/or related environmental sciences. Well-developed interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. Demonstrated knowledge of waste management systems, fate and behaviour and understanding of risk assessment (especially environmental), High level ability to present scientific information in written and verbal forms to a range of stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret waste data and information, Demonstrated knowledge of the waste management system, including feedstock, processes/technologies and outputs
