About the branch:

The Western Basalt District comprises a diversity of cultural and environmental assets including the Brisbane Ranges National Park, Lerderderg and Werribee Gorge State Parks, You Yangs Regional Park, Steiglitz Historic Park, Serendip Sanctuary, Lake Connewarre State Game Reserve, Mt Buangor State Park, Enfield State Park, Woowookarung Regional Park, Hepburn Regional Park and numerous other reserves. The District manages over 50,000 hectares with over 900,000 visitors per year, offering a range of passive and active recreational opportunities in diverse settings.

About the role and your responsibilities:

As the Ranger in Charge (Fire and Emergency), your primary focus will the delivery of fire and emergency programs within the District. This will be achieved through the planning and optimal use of resources within the District, including seasonal Project Firefighters. You will be a key line of support between Parks Victoria and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) in landscape and cross tenure fire planning, while working towards agreed protection measures and working in an ecologically sound manner.

You will be a strong professional with an aptitude for leadership, as you will be responsible for the management of the Fire and Emergency team within the District, as well as the promoton of an environment of both personal and professional development. As the Ranger in Charge, you will be working closely with a range of different stakeholders both within and out with Parks Victoria; as a result, it is essential you are able to provide technical advice and guidance on the implementation of our Regional Action Plan that is adaptable, flexible and responsive to community needs.

To be successful for this role you will need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Science and/or equivalent in a similar field.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in fire and emergency.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in engagement and stakeholder management is required.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in leading and managing team performance Demonstrated experience in provision on expert and technical advice and support.
