WorkSafe is relocating its headquarters to Geelong by July 2018.  This position will be based in the Geelong office from July 2018.  Prior to this date, this role will be based at 222 Exhibition Street.

The Legislation, Policy and Information Services Division (LPIS) develops and maintains the laws administered by WorkSafe by updating legislative and regulatory instruments to implement government policy. LPIS provides strategic policy advice on OHS and Workers Compensation issues and contributes to national policy forums, including a number of Safe Work Australia forums. The Division also develops codes, guidance and information materials to support duty holder compliance with Victoria's OHS and workers compensation legislation.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Policy & Strategy Services, you will work with internal & external stakeholders in formulating advice and briefings to the Victorian Government and WorkSafe Victoria's executive leadership. Your role will see you: 

  • collaborate within a team to develop WorkSafe Victoria's responses to key priority and critical issues as they emerge, including providing critical policy analysis for significant issues implementation including national developments
  • lead the preparation and review of agenda papers and briefings to support the Minister for Finance and WorkSafe Victoria's representation on national forums and formulate policy positions including input into briefings for Safe Work Australia and other national or Victorian forums
  • provide secretariat services to multiple forums, and support WorkSafe's executive leadership team at National forums

Skills & experience

Ideally, you'll have prior experience in a similar role, within a government or regulatory environment. Some of your experience and strengths include:

  • demonstrated experience in provision of secretariat functions (either to committee's and/or Boards) which includes excellent planning and organisational skills and the proven capability to meet strict timelines/deadlines and to self-manage.
  • demonstrated policy expertise (experience in provision of high quality and rigorous policy advice on complex matters) and the ability to quickly gain knowledge of WorkSafe Victoria's legal, policy and operational environments.
  • Experience in developing strategic policy, and an ability to interpret legislation
  • Ability to coordinate high volume work flows and ensure streamlined processes, to ensure accurate and timely advice is provided
