Position Details

About us

HM Prison Barwon is a maximum-security prison located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne, and is part of the Barwon South West Regional structure. It is Victoria's major maximum-security prison for sentenced male prisoners.  

About the role

As the Projects Supervisor, you will provide a critical operations function assisting with the delivery of allocated projects, ensuring that prison policies and procedures are followed. The role will involve you working across multiple projects and will provide a critical interface between prison management and the Built Environment and Business Sustainability (BEBS) department.

In the role, you will:

  • oversee, lead and manage staff in relation to all capital works and related projects
  • ensure the successful delivery of all required works, projects and specialist functions
  • participate in continuous improvement and solution implementations to address local issues and problems
  • manage performance, coach and develop staff in OH&S and other training requirements
  • identify operational and service delivery deficiencies and implement strategic solutions.

It is a requirement of this position to work weekends and public holidays, which will be remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Determination.

Please note this is a fixed term opportunity until 7 December, 2019.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • knowledge of risk management practices and their application in the corrections setting
  • an understanding of the Corrections Act 1986 and Corrections Regulations 2009 as well as the issues facing Corrections Victoria
  • leadership, maturity, sound judgement and confidence in decision making, with developed capabilities to coach, mentor and motivate staff
  • highly developed communication, negotiation and problem solving skills.
