Position Details

About us

HM Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) is a maximum-security correctional facility located on the fringe of the Melbourne CBD. The location is the principal reception and assessment prison for male prisoners in the State of Victoria.

About the role

The Offender Services Officer is a key member of the Offender Services team. This team, led by the Offender Services Manager, is responsible for health and prisoner support services together with the development and delivery of a range of personal development programs. In this role, you will:

  • Deliver a range of programs including Prisoner Orientation, Nicotine Replacement Therapy Program and Prison Profile Program
  • Act as a key point of contact for prisoners and unit staff in relation to prisoner welfare and program matters, including providing advice and support to staff regarding prisoner management
  • Liaise with a range of internal staff and external agencies in the provision of programs and make appropriate referrals.

This role may include weekend work.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Experience in or an understanding of working within a correctional environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to build strong rapport with complex offenders in order to understand their issues and suggest appropriate courses of action.

A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable.
