Position Details

Our Internal Review Unit (IRU) provides Employers, Employees and Duty Holders with an opportunity to request a review of Inspector decisions under the Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004, the Dangerous Goods Act 1985, the Equipment Public Safety Act 1994 and the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation & Compensation Act 2013.  The IRU also reviews decisions to review or cancel licences under various Regulations.

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Director - Internal Review Unit is a pivotal one in leading and managing the IRU efficiently and effectively.  This position will liaise with a broad range of stakeholders and will provide authoritative reviews of WorkSafe Inspectorate decisions affecting employers and duty holders.

Ensuring all decisions are made in a timely and professional manner, you will provide advice and feedback on a range of complex issues and provide leadership to the IRU team.  Utilising your well-developed stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution and facilitation skills, you are outcomes focussed and can work to deadlines and identify and manage risks.

This key role requires an Australian qualified lawyer with experience in Administrative Law and proven knowledge of OH&S Legislation.  With a demonstrated ability to lead and manage within a government context, you will be comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels within the organisation. You will have high level strategic, analytical and critical legal decision-making capabilities and significant experience in interpreting and advising on complex matters.
