The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an Operations Manager to play a critical role at Beechworth Correctional Centre.

About the Business Unit

The Beechworth Correctional Centre is a minimum-security facility with a focus on preparing individuals for release and successful reintegration back into society. It offers various working industries with the men given the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that will effectively link them to employment on release. When not engaged in work, the men attend rehabilitative programs to address their offending behaviour, engage in education and visits whilst many also engage in recreation and community assistance programs.

About the Role

As part of the Beechworth Correctional Centre Senior Management Team, the Operations Manager has responsibility for overseeing all aspects of prisoner management and ensuring that policies and procedures are followed. This will include liaising with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure that offender management issues and requirements are being met. The role also involves the coordination of information and services to the various areas within the facility, and the ability to develop and implement new policies and procedures. They will also be required to identify and address issues concerning the facility, people in our care and staff.

As the Operations Manager, some of your duties will include:

  • Providing leadership to staff, promoting the facility's vision and managing staff in ways that reflect that vision.
  • Actively promoting, conducting, and participating in one-on-one catchups to support and contribute to the professional growth and development of staff.
  • Developing, managing, and ensuring the quality of the delivery of custodial processes including offender management, movement control, operation of security equipment, reception and discharge, escorts, visitors and visits, urinalysis, searching, security procedures, disciplinary issues and hearings and case management review.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with staff, people in custody, and other service providers in the delivery of an integrated, whole of prison program approach to reducing reoffending.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in areas relevant to correctional delivery, offender management and/or treatment.

Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification in social work, related human services discipline, criminal justice,
  • criminology or with work experience in a related field is highly desirable.
  • A full and current Victorian driver's licence or a minimum P2 driver's licence.
  • A pre-employment Health Assessment will be required for external candidates and non-custodial staff.
