The Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Melbourne Gardens is one of Melbourne's most beautiful and historic cultural heritage venues and includes the National Herbarium of Victoria and the Melbourne Observatory. Founded in 1846, an important science institution, its world renowned picturesque landscape extends across 36 hectares, with over 90 buildings and structures,  many being listed on the State's Heritage Register.

This role is within the Infrastructure and Facilities Branch, which has the broad objective to maintain the built environment to a high standard, in a safe and serviceable condition, complementing and helping to enrich the overall Melbourne Gardens experience.

In this role you will be responsible for supporting and assisting the Supervisor Facilities with the facilities management functions at Melbourne Gardens including procurement; asset management; contractor management; building works and preventative scheduled and remedial maintenance (including heritage building conservation); building compliance; risk management, emergency management and security; office accommodation and relocations; essential services; cleaning and energy management; along with various administrative duties.

Success Criteria

To be the successful candidate for this position you will have:

  • a keen interest in the building/facilities/venue management profession supported by appropriate entry level knowledge and technical skills with regard to building maintenance;
  • good attention to detail;
  • demonstrated leadership qualities along with administrative, computer, organisational and problem solving skills;
  • ability to operate machinery and equipment and
  • aptitude for interpreting maps, plans, technical drawings and specifications.

You will also have completed a relevant trade certificate or a property/facilities/venue management TAFE or university course. Equivalent experience supporting facilities management at a multi-faceted public facing venue will also be advantageous.
