Who We Are

Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria (RBGV) employs over 240 staff overseeing two beautiful world-class gardens, Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne and Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne.

What You'll Do

You will lead the design, delivery and continuous improvement of multidisciplinary learning and participation programs, including First Peoples programs, ensuring they are innovative, engaging and reflect best practice nature-based, sustainability learning. Leading and mentoring the Learning and Participation team across both Melbourne and Cranbourne sites, you will build capability to deliver high-quality learning and participation outcomes. Working closely with key stakeholders, including Traditional Owners partners, you'll design new initiatives while evaluating and refining existing programs to maximise their impact for diverse audiences, from early childhood, schools to tertiary learners and families.

The role includes building and sustaining strategic partnerships across government, philanthropic, community and research sectors. This involves securing and managing funding, as well as contributing to budgeting, reporting and program evaluation. As part of the Learning and Community Engagement leadership team, you'll collaborate across the organisation to drive continuous improvement, strengthen organisational capability and deliver on broader engagement priorities.

What You'll Bring

The successful candidate will hold the relevant tertiary qualification and have significant experience designing and delivering high-quality learning and participation programs, along with proven capability leading teams in a public-facing environment. You'll bring strong knowledge of contemporary approaches in sustainability education and the ability to integrate science, conservation and First Peoples' perspective into transformative learning experiences. This will be underpinned by experience working with Traditional Owners and First Peoples communities and a sound understanding of child safety requirements. A highly creative and strategic mindset will be complemented by excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build partnerships and influence outcomes. Strong project management, judgement and problem-solving skills will enable you to manage complexity, while your commitment to continuous learning ensures you stay current with emerging trends and best practice.
