The Commission is an independent statutory body that promotes improvement in policies and practices affecting the safety and wellbeing of Victorian children and young people. It has a particular focus on vulnerable children and young people. The Commission is also the regulator for the Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct Scheme. The Commission supports flexible and hybrid working models Mandatory Vaccinations The Commission is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk to the health of its workers and stakeholders. Employees will be required to be fully vaccinated (two doses plus a minimum of one booster) against preventable diseases, such as COVID-19, based on Victorian Chief Health Officer’s Directions and the Commission’s policies. Position Details

The Strategic Adviser supports the Principal Commissioner in all aspects of her role, including providing written advice on complex issues, coordinating tasks and activities, leading projects, and managing internal and external stakeholder relationships for the Principal Commissioner. The role formally reports to the Chief Executive Officer, but in practice reports directly to the Principal Commissioner on many specific tasks.

In this role you will:

  • Actively model leadership attributes and behaviours and the Commission's values
  • Provide high level authoritative advice and written briefings on complex and sensitive legal and policy issues particularly in relation to the rights, safety and wellbeing of children and young people to the Principal Commissioner
  • Establish effective rapport, and work strategically and cooperatively, with stakeholders both internal and external to the Commission, and use informal and formal channels of communication to influence senior stakeholders to achieve Commission objectives


About You


As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Experience in working at a senior level in supporting ministerial and/or departmental or agency executive functions.
  • A demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with people at all levels
  • An understanding of government policy, oversight, regulatory and/or legislative processes.
