Position Details

The Senior Budget Analyst role within the Portfolio Budget and Financial Management team is a key role in providing strategic advice and information on a broad range of budget and financial management activities across the portfolio. This includes undertaking research activities and prepare submissions, reports and briefing materials for senior management on a range of strategic financial management and budgeting issues. With a degree in accounting, finance or commerce (desirable), the role requires high level conceptual and analytical skills, a focus on detail and ability to build effective relationships along with strong written skills. The role also provides strategic long-term capability support to senior management around forecasting and more prescriptive value insight and analytics for the department's forward estimates.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel is well regarded
  • Degree in accounting, finance or commerce or equivalent is desirable
  • Member of CPA / CA or currently in progress is desirable
  • Expertise in best practice budgeting within government and knowledge of the Financial Management Act is preferred

This is a fixed term position available until January 2027. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, Melbourne, with hybrid work arrangements available.
