Position Details

The Biodiversity Research and Information Branch (BRI) is a key source and host of knowledge and information about the flora and fauna of Victoria, and the ecological processes that determine distribution and abundance. The Arthur Rylah Institute for Environmental Research (ARI) is a major part of the Branch and is a leading centre for applied ecological research on flora, fauna and ecosystems. ARI's main focus is on providing strategic research and management advice to answer key questions affecting ecologically sustainable land or water management and resource use policies

The Business Support Officer provides high quality administrative and business support to the ARI Business Services team. They report to the Manager, Business Services and collaborate closely with various BRI and ARI stakeholders which include scientists, technical officers and colleagues across the Department.

Their responsibilities include providing timely and efficient front of house and reception services onsite at ARI, delivering business support tasks which inlcude event support, secretariat function and ad hoc projects.

To be successful in the role, the ideal candidate will be proactive in seeking opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement, leveraging existing systems to enhance work quality and efficiency. They should possess foundational knowledge in business acumen to understand how back-office policies impact unit operations, identify potential process gaps, and effectively manage projects by prioritising tasks and maintaining accurate records. Additionally, they must demonstrate applied skills in stakeholder management to enhance client satisfaction, resolve issues constructively, and exhibit digital literacy to guide others in using relevant digital tools and understand their impact on daily operations.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a front of house/executive assistant or administrative role (desirable).

This is an ongoing part-time (0.6FTE) position. The work location for this position is Arthur Rylah Institute (Heidelberg).
