Position Details

About the role 

The Surveyor-General Victoria Geodesy Section is looking for a Senior Geodetic Surveyor to join a dynamic work environment and contribute to the delivery of accurate and reliable surveying and positioning for Victoria, now and in the future. Offering a flexible and supportive culture, and opportunities for growth and development, the successful candidate will apply technical specialist expertise to the practical implementation of national geodetic initiatives in Victoria. 

Candidates will require specialist expertise in the measurement, monitoring, adjustment and analysis of large-scale survey control networks, as well as practical skills in planning and managing technical field surveys. 

The successful candidate will lead the Victorian Geodesy Survey section, managing the field survey program and the maintenance and enhancement of the Victorian survey control network adjustments, contributing to the delivery of national geodetic and vertical datums in Victoria.

Specialist / Technical Expertise

  • Mandatory Bachelor Degree or higher in Surveying, Geomatics, Spatial Science or equivalent.
  • Technical expertise in the establishment and maintenance of survey control infrastructure.
  • Technical expertise in the measurement and monitoring of high-fidelity survey control networks, including experience using a wide range of surveying equipment (GNSS, levels, total stations and ancillary equipment).
  • Specialist expertise in the reduction and processing of survey information, with sound ability to use computer applications to perform computations, data manipulation and analysis.
  • Specialist expertise in the design, adjustment and analysis of large-scale geodetic network.
  • Specialist expertise in reference frame geodesy, coordinate transformations and conversions.
  • Specialist expertise in legal metrology and the verification of length in the context of EDM baseline and equipment calibration.
